Dutch Letter Bomber Demands Bitcoin Ransom To Stop Bombing, After 2 Bomb Attack in Amsterdam & Kerkrade

After bombing two different locations with letterbombs in the Netherlands, the anonymous bomber is now demanding a Bitcoin ransom.

According to reports from local media De Telegraaf, the first bomb exploded on Wednesday morning at around 8:00 AM in the mailroom of a business building in Amsterdam, the country’s capital. It was followed by another explosion shortly after in a postal-sorting center in Kerkrade.

There were reportedly no casualties from the explosions. However, the buildings suffered huge damages and the companies were evacuated and investigations are ongoing.

Local police have confirmed that the sender of this bomb is demanding an amount in Bitcoin. The amount demanded was, however, not specified due to speculations that it could affect the investigations.

The sender has reportedly threatened to send more letter bombs if the demands are not met. The police are suspecting extortion to be the motive behind this act.

Another suspicious package was spotted at an ABN AMRO branch in Avenue Ceramique in Maastricht but upon close inspection, it was discovered to be a computer mouse in an envelope.

Bomb Letters For Bitcoins

Earlier this year, there were several bomb letters sent to several businesses like hotels, real estate offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Maastricht, and Utrecht. These bomb letters were reportedly often followed by a threatening letter. The bombs, however, did not explode.

This development is similar to the “Jumbo bomber” attack a few years ago. The culprit, Alex.O., had extorted the Jumbo Supermarket, demanding for Bitcoin payment in order not to detonate the bombs. He was later arrested.
